There is so much crap happening on some websites that I'm a member of. After my paid subscription runs out in January for LJ, I am going to use another account. If you want to know the link, please IM me on Yahoo at msalicia_81. I have no idea who is reading my journal now, and I really don't want people sneaking and lurking on me. It is going to be friends only, and not public. I'm just tired of all the drama and crap. I'm sorry to do this to you all, but I'm sure you will all understand. I'm not going to be updating this journal much now, so if I don't talk to you all before next weekend, I hope you all have a great holiday.

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
and I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
"I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?"
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.

If anybody could give me some tips on how to care for a blind kitten, I'd love ya forever. She isn't blind in both eyes, but she is in one. I am wanting to make her a housecat, but I haven't gotten too far with that yet. :o(

She's about four months old and she is just the sweetest kitten I've ever met in my entire life. And that's saying a lot from a person with about 15 cats. I've always been around kittens, but she is the most special thing I've ever came across. I know she's got a hard life ahead of her with only one eye, but I want her to have a good life. So if you can give me some tips, it'd be great.

Are there any special drops for her eye? Is there anything I can do for her? I've never come across a blind cat/kitten, so I'm lost.

To the Military Wives...

I would like to recognize these often underestimated, unseen, and unheard heroes.

This is for the young women that are waking up at 6 a.m. every morning, laying out clothes and packing three lunches for those small precious children that they have been left alone to care for.

This is for the pregnant Military wife wondering if her husband will make it home in time to watch their miracle happen.

This is for the childless Military wife, living in a town or on a base alone where she is a complete stranger to her surroundings.

This is for the women that feel like a third leg when they go out with their friends and their husbands.

This is for the Military wife that canceled all her plans to wait by the phone, and even though the phone broke up and cut off every time you spoke to him you waited anyway.

This is a pledge to the women that cry themselves to sleep in an empty bed.

This is to recognize the woman that felt like she was dying inside when he said he had to go, but smiled for him anyway.

This is for those of you that are faithfully in that long line at the post office once a month, handling 2 large boxes and 2 small children like a pro.

This is for that woman that decided to remodel the house to pass time, and then realized that she had no idea what she was doing and sighed and wished she had a little help.

This is for all the lonely nights, all the one-person dinners, and all of the wondering thoughts because you haven't heard from him in days.

This is for the sad Military wives, the angry Military wives, and the strong Military wives.

A toast to you for falling apart, and putting yourselves back together. Because a pay check isn't enough, a body pillow in your bed is no consolation, and a web cam can never compare.

This is for all of you no matter how easy or hard this was for you. Our soldiers/sailors are brave, but so are we.

So the next time someone tells you that they would never marry a Military guy, don't bother explaining to them that you can't control who you fall in love with. Just think of this and nod your head, know that you are the stronger woman.

Hold your heads up high, hang that flag in your front yard, stick 100 magnets on your car, and then give yourself a pat on the back.

Be proud of being a military wife, not everyone can do it.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The Marine stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Marine,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Marine,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

~Author Unknown~

MJ-23. Gone, but never forgotten.

Thomas William W., age 57 of O.H., Ohio passed away Wednesday, November 30, at OSU East Hospital in Columbus,Oh after his long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 24, 1948 in Scioto County to the late William C. W. and Marie (O’Dell) W. of Standpipe Road, J., Ohio.

Tom is survived by his wife Sharon L. (E.) W. of O.H.; two sons, Christopher (Felicia) W. of O.H., Michael (Connie) W. of O.H.; four grandsons, Devon, Tyler, Zachary, and Jared; one granddaughter, Chelsea; brother, Robert (Angie) W. of Chillicothe; sister, Carol (Ray) B. of Dublin, Ohio; five nieces and 2 nephews, mother-in-law, Evelyn E. of O.H. and Aunt Muriel R. of O.H.; numerous relatives and a host of friends.

He was retired from Lucasville Penitentiary, former O.H. Police Officer, Paramedic with Southeastern Ohio E.M.S., a member of the M.J. Fire Department for 36 years, past member of the Village Council for 7 years and a member of the Sardis Presbyterian Church, a Parish Trustee and served as a Sunday School Superintendent.

Funeral services 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the K-L Funeral Home with Rev. Carson H. officiating burial to follow in C. Cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Friday December 2, 2005 at the funeral home. The fire department will be conducting special services at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions be made to, Sardis Presbyterian Church.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The service today was amazing.

During the funeral march, we had to go by the fire department. They had put a ladder truck on both sides of the road and crossed the ladders, with a flag draping down in the middle. The firemen were out all saluting as the cars went by and a guy was playing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.

When we got to the cemetery, the bagpipes played again. The firemen, police, and EMS people all stood at attention while they carried the casket between them and the family walked between them as well. They presented his fire helmet to the boys and then they presented it to my aunt. They set off the fire pager tones (the ones they sound off when there's a fire run) and had a last call...MJ-23 gone, but never forgotten. The bagpipes played again and it was over.

Everybody is exhausted and basically drained. My aunt did it as quick as she could to get it over. But I understand and agree with her 200%. Now we can all get rested back up and try to move on with our lives. The grandkids are not dealing with it well at all. The oldest one is 12, and the youngest is 5. It's hard for them to understand and they feel like they've been cheated. I've been trying to spend as much time with them as I can, I know their parents are exhausted too.

Anyways, thank you all for praying for the family. The last hour or so he was alive was very hard, but he is gone now and he is at peace. He doesn't have to suffer anymore. He will be deeply missed. Noone will ever replace my Uncle Tom. He was an amazing man--he truly never will be forgotten.

My uncle's kidneys DID NOT shut down the other day. The doctors told my family that they had shut down at 7 a.m. The only problem was that his catheter had came out. And yes, it is a good hospital, so I'm shocked too. Ohio State.

He is in a coma now. They have to keep icing him down because his temperature keeps shooting up to about 105. His blood pressure is staying somewhere around 70/60. He weighs 80 pounds. He was always 200-220. Quite a difference.

[I hope it's over soon.]

Ohio Executes Man for Two Murders
By SARAH ANDERSON, Associated Press Writer
11 minutes ago

LUCASVILLE, Ohio - Ohio carried out the nation's 999th execution since 1977 on Tuesday, putting to death a man who strangled his mother-in-law while high on cocaine and later killed his 5-year-old stepdaughter to cover up the crime.

John Hicks, 49, was put to death a day after Eric Nance was executed in Arkansas for killing a teenager by slashing her throat with a box cutter. The 1,000th execution since the death penalty was reinstated is likely to come as soon as Wednesday, when Robin Lovitt is set to die in Virginia for fatally stabbing a man with scissors during a pool hall robbery.

On Monday, Gov. Bob Taft had refused to commute Hicks' sentence from death to life in prison, said Andrea Dean, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Hicks offered a tearful apology for the 1985 murders in an interview earlier this month with Ohio Parole Board members, and said he loved both victims — 56-year-old Maxine Armstrong and 5-year-old Brandy Green. He detailed the killings and said his cocaine high made him desperate and paranoid. Hicks had traded his VCR for about $50 worth of cocaine, court records show. After taking the drugs, he realized that he needed to get the VCR back before his wife wondered where it was, so he decided to steal money from Armstrong.

Hicks found his stepdaughter asleep on the couch at Armstrong's apartment. He woke her and brought her to bed and then strangled Armstrong, first with his hands and then with a clothesline. He left her apartment with about $300 and some credit cards. He used some of the money to buy back his VCR and purchase more cocaine. Realizing Green could identify him as the last person at the apartment, he returned and attempted to suffocate the 5-year-old with a pillow then strangle her with his hands. She struggled, and Hicks covered her mouth and nose with duct tape. He left Cincinnati, but turned himself in to police in Knoxville, Tenn.

Hicks was the fourth person executed in Ohio this year and the 19th since the state resumed executions in 1999.

Lucasville is about a 30-minute drive from my house.

Things you can only say at Thanksgiving

01. Talk about a huge breast!

02. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist.

03. It's Cool Whip time!

04. If I don't undo my pants, I'll burst!

05. That's one terrific spread!

06. I'm in the mood for a little dark meat.

07. Are you ready for seconds yet?

08. It's a little dry, do you still want to eat it?

09. Just wait your turn, you'll get some!

10. Don't play with your meat.

11. Just spread the legs open and stuff it in.

12. Do you think you'll be able to handle all these people at once?

13. I didn't expect everyone to come at once!

14. You still have a little bit on your chin.

15. How long will it take after you stick it in?

16. You'll know it's ready when it pops up.

17. Wow, I didn't think I could handle all of that!

18. That's the biggest one I've ever seen!
